A Transplant to Improve Liver Function and Regeneration 1

Submitted by Pedro Melgar Lesmes in the Edelman Lab at MIT

This image shows how we can use an implant of a biomaterial (on the right side of the image) seeded with vascular cells as scaffold to fix and splice a damaged vascular area in a living donor of liver (on the left side of the image) in order to regenerate the tissue faster and for a faster recovery of hepatic function. The image is part of a project focused to develop implants for cell therapy able to improve liver regeneration and function after liver transplantation in donor and receptors.
