Insulin binding to insulin receptor is the most important biochemical event leading to transport of glucose inside the cells, from which they make energy. Our image shows a snapshot of events that lead to binding of insulin (green ribbons) to insulin receptor (red ribbons). The insulin receptor is embedded in lipid layer (grey wires), the blue surfaces represent water, present both outside and inside the cell.
