We are manipulating stem cells to recreate miniature versions of human organs. In this case we have instructed the stem cells to turn into an organ like brain tissue. My research was originally focused around investigating the effects of Prader Willi syndrome on the development of the brain; however while that aspect of my research could no longer be pursued, I still needed a model system to study development of the neocortex, which as seen through the image creates remarkably connected neuronal networks.
