This image shows lysosomes in neurons in the brain of a mouse. The red color shows the structure and projections of these neurons, the blue color indicates their nuclei and the green indicates the lysosomes. The lysosome is an important cellular compartment that acts as a degradation center and a signaling hub that regulates important aspects of cellular physiology.
This image was taken to verify a new mouse line I created that expresses an HA epitope tag on the surface of lysosomes specifically in neurons, which allows for the purification of neuronal lysosomes for proteomic, metabolomic and functional analyses. We will use this mouse line to characterize changes in lysosomal biology during mouse aging.
