This image shows a fluorescent dye (blue) incorporated into small hollow particles for controlled delivery of vaccines and cancer treatments. These particles have a core-shell structure formed when a cap and base (incorporating the core) layers are fused together. The microparticle itself has a red fluorescent cap that is transparent. Thus, the blue dye is visible inside the particle from the top.
